My Favorite Minnesota Greenhouses

I know I am not the only one who has “accidentally” found themselves at the greenhouse once April hits!

We grow all of our veggie plants from seed, but it is always fun to explore what is new at my favorite greenhouses. Often I’ll find myself trying a new herb, or finding dahlias for my pots around the house (which are my favorite!), or yet another houseplant that I don’t have space for.

I wanted to share with you three of my favorite, go-to greenhouses in the Twin Cities area!

South Cedar Greenhouse

South Cedar is right up the road from us, about a 5 minute drive south from Lakeville and Farmington. It has a small retail operation, as they sell a lot in their wholesale department, but I regularly find myself pulling in to see what is new. I’m usually there at least 3 times per season, if not more!

I love their selection of perennials as well as annuals, and their hanging baskets are beautiful! I often will buy annuals to plant my own baskets from South Cedar, and every year they end up being a bit different.

They have a succulent club that is a great option if you are someone who can never have too many succulents! South Cedar is open seasonally, so be sure to stop by this spring when you get the chance!

Farmington Greenhouse

I grew up going to this greenhouse with my mom at least a couple times each year. I like to stop in at least once every season. They have a nice, wide selection of annuals as well as veggies and herbs. I’ve seen perennials there as well in past years, however the annuals and veggies are really where Farmington Greenhouse shines!

Most seasons I plant a pansy bowl for myself and also my mom, whose favorite flowers are pansies, and I’ve found some really pretty varieties here.

There is also a little retail space here that offers things such as garden decor, seeds, and more. Farmington Greenhouse is only open seasonally, so be sure to stop in this spring!

Tonkadale Greenhouse

Tonkadale is located in Minnetonka, but it is well worth the drive. They offer all sorts of plants but all year long, this is a houseplant mecca! My friends and I will regularly take a stroll through the aisles in mid-winter because it is so tropical. I’ve also been there in the spring and their selection of perennials, annuals, veggies, and hanging baskets are all fabulous.

It is a greenhouse that is very well-organized. I have never had trouble finding something that I was looking for! They also are great at educating people about plant care - the plant’s needs are on placards by the plants, but they also offer free care cards and online resources on their website as well.

Tonkadale also has a variety of decorative pots and plant hangers, the vast majority of them sourced locally from local artists.

If you choose to head to Tonkadale, be sure to slate at least a few hours to wander and peruse their great options!

You can visit the Tonkadale website HERE.

These are only a few of the MANY other amazing greenhouse options in the Twin Cities!
