Celebrating 5 years in business!
In 2020 I had the “small idea” to start this farm business. I had no idea where to even begin, but I knew I wanted to sell the extra fruit and vegetables we were growing on our farm. A quick google search led me to learn about Minnesota’s cottage food law and I got to work.
Things have evolved substantially through the past 5 years. I dove in, like I am prone to doing with anything in my life, and I did ALL THE THINGS in my first year. There were days in August I was gardening, baking, AND canning all in one day. This was a one-way trip to burnout, which I felt pretty heavily after my first season.
I hired Kristen, my awesome farm hand and jill-of-all-trades in summer 2021. Kristen is a pro at weeding, harvesting, planting, mulching, and any other project I think of for her to tackle. She has a positive energy that I didn’t realize I needed until I hired her on. She is starting her 5th season with me this spring, and I am incredibly grateful for her!
We evolved into our on-farm markets with New Frontier Farms for a couple of years. This was a fun way to bring people to the farm, and to partner with Maggie over at New Frontier. Events like this are a TON of work, so this did not continue beyond 2023, but I was grateful for the opportunity to work with Maggie and to try something like this out.
We shifted into a delivery and pick up only option in 2024, which has been a really good fit for us. Both my husband Michael and I work off the farm as well, so this allowed us a better balance. He’s an excellent delivery guy, and I’m really grateful that we are able to offer our own delivery service.
Our signature program is our 4 week Farmer’s Choice Harvest Bags. This has been a wonderful way for us to continue to bring locally grown fruits and veggies to our communities, while also giving a CSA option, “without the CSA commitment!” Get delicious, locally grown produce without the time commitment of a full CSA.
In 2022, we introduced our monthly cinnamon roll delivery in the winter months. I had no idea this would take off to the degree that it did! Our freshly baked cinnamon and caramel rolls, delivered straight to your door! This has become one of our best selling products.
Not everything has been sunshine and rainbows, but through these past 5 years I have learned so much about myself. I would not have believed you if you told me 10 years ago where I’d be. But, here we are! Cheers to the next 5.
