4 Goals to support local in 2025

I am a big fan of new year’s. Turning the calendar always is a nice opportunity to take stock of what is going on in my life, and to think about where I want to go.

I have always been into goal setting. Every year I like to set a number of personal goals for myself, ranging from personal health to time management to fun things I want to do in the new year.

You might be like me and you take the time to sit down and reflect but also plan for the year ahead, or maybe you are simply feeling the pull to design a year where you discover new things.

Here are some ideas if your goal is to have more fun and explore new things in 2025:

  1. Create a “never been there, never done that” list.  I have an ongoing “never been there, never done that” list on my phone.  I'm always adding new places that I want to visit right here in our area.  I might see a new restaurant or local coffee shop that I have never been to, I might see an event I want to attend or a new-to-me store I've never explored or a business I want to support. This has helped me to get outside of my comfort zone and try new experiences, restaurants, and stores.

  2. Eat more local food.  This is a goal that is on my radar every year.  I love supporting other local farmers in my area who grow crops that we don't, or produce meat or other products.  Knowing exactly where your food comes from is so powerful!

  3. Grow a veggie garden.  This can feel intimidating especially if you've never grown anything before, but gardens are such a fun way to try something new.  Whether you have a few patio pots with tomato plants or a small plot in your backyard, it is immensely rewarding to grow your own food!

We will be selling our veggie plants again this spring, be sure to watch for that information in the weeks ahead! No matter if you want 2 cherry tomato plants on your patio or you are ready to can 4 dozen pints of salsa, we have you covered!

  4. Meet friends for coffee at a local coffee shop once per month. I love meeting friends for coffee, especially in the winter time when my life has slowed down a little bit. I’ve made a conscious effort to use these meet ups to try new, local mom and pop coffee shops. There are so many out there, and exploring new-to-me coffee shops has helped me find some new favorite places to support.

Keeping things local has a lot of power. One of my favorite things is exploring new things in my area because I never know what fun new treasures I will find!
